Install in two minutes

  1. Create an account and add your site. Enter the domain the site runs on, without https:// — for example example.com. The www. version and every subdomain are accepted automatically.
  2. Copy the snippet from your dashboard. It already contains your site ID.
  3. Paste it into the <head> of every page, usually once in a shared layout or template:
    <script async defer
      src="https://analytics.subnodes.net/track.js"
      data-site="YOUR_SITE_ID">
    </script>
  4. Open your site in a normal browser window, then reload your dashboard. The visit shows up straight away.

Single-page apps need nothing extra: page changes made with the browser’s history API (React, Next.js, Astro, Remix, Vue) are counted automatically.

Where the snippet goes

  • Plain HTML — inside <head> on each page, or in your shared header include.
  • WordPress — in your theme’s header.php, or with any plugin that adds code to the header.
  • Next.js (App Router) — as a plain <script> tag inside <head> in app/layout.tsx.
  • Astro, Hugo, Jekyll, Eleventy — in the base layout’s <head>.
  • Webflow, Squarespace, Wix, Shopify — in the site settings field for custom code in the head.

Any site that lets you add code to the <head> works.

My dashboard shows no data

The domain does not match

We only accept pageviews from the domain you registered and its subdomains. That stops anyone from sending fake visits with your site ID. To check, open your browser’s developer tools, go to the Network tab, reload the page and click the request to /api/track: a 403 response names the domain we expected. A site’s domain cannot be edited yet: delete the site, add it again with the right domain, and use the new snippet.

Your browser sends Do Not Track

Visitors whose browser sends a Do Not Track signal are never counted — on purpose. If you have it switched on, your own test visits will not appear. Try another browser.

An ad or tracker blocker is on

Some blockers stop every analytics script, ours included. Test with the blocker paused.

You are testing a local copy

Pages opened straight from disk are ignored, and so are visits to localhost on the live service. Test on the real site.

Your trial or subscription has ended

While no plan is active, new pageviews are not recorded. Your existing data stays. Subscribe on the Billing page and counting resumes.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a cookie banner?

sub.analytics sets no cookies, stores nothing on the visitor’s device, and never stores an IP address. It is built so that it does not need a consent banner. Whether your site needs one overall depends on everything else it runs — if in doubt, ask your data protection officer. This is not legal advice.

What counts as a unique visitor?

One person is counted once per site per day. The same person on two different days counts twice, because we deliberately cannot recognise anyone across days. How that works is in the privacy policy.

What exactly do you store?

For each pageview: the page path (without query string), the referring domain, the country, the browser family, the device type, the time, the time spent on the page, and a daily hash that cannot be traced back to a person. No IP addresses, no cookies, no full user-agent strings.

Where is the data stored?

On servers of Hetzner Online GmbH in Nuremberg, Germany. The off-site backup copy is encrypted before it leaves the server and is also stored with Hetzner in Germany.

How long do you keep it?

As long as your account is active. After you delete your account, your data is removed from the live system within 30 days, and from the encrypted backups as they rotate out — within 12 months at the latest.

Do you have a data processing agreement (DPA / AVV)?

Yes. It applies automatically when you use the service. Read it on the DPA page; a signed copy is available on request.

How many sites and pageviews are included?

Up to 50 sites per account, and unlimited pageviews.

What does it cost?

$5 per month, tax included, after a 30-day free trial. No card is needed for the trial.

How do I cancel?

On the Billing page in your dashboard. Your plan runs until the end of the period you have paid for; there are no refunds for part of a month.

How do I export or delete my data?

Write to hello@subnodes.net from the address on your account. We send a CSV export, or delete your account and data, on request.
